Steward is not regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). we are a money-companion app, not a regulated financial adviser. nothing in the app or on this website is financial advice, and we don't make decisions for you about your money. for regulated financial advice please speak to an FCA-authorised firm.

section 01

about this contract.

In this document "Steward", "we", "us", and "our" mean Steward Money Ltd (a company in the process of being incorporated in England and Wales — registration number to be added once issued by Companies House). "you" and "your" mean the person using the Steward service.

These terms govern your use of the Steward website (stewardapp.co.uk), the Steward mobile app, and any related services we provide. by creating an account, joining a waitlist, or otherwise using the service, you agree to these terms and to our privacy policy.

if you don't agree with these terms, please don't use Steward. that's not a problem — there are other money apps in the world.

section 02

who can use Steward.

you must be at least 18 years old and a UK resident with a UK address to use Steward. by signing up, you confirm both are true.

you also need a valid UK mobile phone number, an email address you can access, and a UK postcode. these are mandatory — see the privacy policy for what we use each one for.

section 03

what Steward does (and doesn't).

Steward is a money-companion app. we help you understand your money, plan ahead, and spot opportunities to save. that's the deal.

What Steward does: we ingest information you give us (and, optionally, information your bank shares with us through Open Banking), turn it into a clear picture of your finances, and surface insights, plans, and suggestions that may help you reach your goals.

What Steward isn't: we are not a regulated financial adviser. nothing we show you constitutes financial advice as defined by the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000. we don't tell you what to do with your money — every financial decision remains yours. we don't manage your money, hold your money, lend you money, or initiate payments on your behalf. for regulated financial advice, speak to an FCA-authorised firm.

No guarantee of outcomes: Steward provides estimates, projections, and suggestions based on the information available to us. we don't guarantee any specific financial result. actual outcomes depend on your decisions, market conditions, and other factors outside our control.

section 04

your account.

Creation: we use magic-link sign-in (no passwords). you enter your email; we send a one-time link; clicking it signs you in. simple and harder to compromise than passwords.

Security: your account is yours to keep secure. don't share your sign-in links. if you lose access to the email address linked to your account, you may lose access to Steward — please email hello@stewardapp.co.uk as soon as possible if that happens.

Accuracy: the value of Steward depends on the accuracy of the information you give us. you agree to provide accurate, complete, and current information when creating and using your account.

One person, one account: accounts are for individuals. you can't transfer your account to someone else.

section 05

pricing, free trial, billing & refunds.

Steward is a paid service. plain pricing, fair trial, cancel any time.

The plans (current as of the effective date — see /pricing for the live numbers):

  • Solo — £3.50 per week or £145.60 per year (20% off the weekly price).
  • Joint — £7.50 per week or £312 per year, for up to two people on the same plan.
  • The reads — £1.50 per week, web-only access to Steward's editorial content. free if you're on Solo or Joint.
  • Student discount — 10% off Solo or Joint with a verified .ac.uk email address.

Free trial: 7 days for everyone. you give us payment details when you start. you won't be charged until day 8. if you cancel before then, you pay nothing.

Billing: after the trial, we charge your card on a recurring basis (weekly or annually depending on your plan) until you cancel. cards are processed by an FCA-authorised payment processor; we never see or store your full card number.

Cancelling: you can cancel at any time from inside the app. cancelling takes effect at the end of your current billing period — you keep access until then. we don't lock you in.

Refunds: we offer a refund of the most recent payment if you cancel within 14 days of being charged AND haven't used the service meaningfully during that period (this aligns with your statutory cooling-off rights under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, with the small caveat that beginning to use a digital service before the 14-day window ends can waive the cooling-off right). beyond that, we don't refund partial periods. email hello@stewardapp.co.uk and we'll always look at edge cases fairly.

Price changes: if we change pricing, we'll tell you by email at least 30 days before the change applies to your account. you can cancel before the new price kicks in if you don't want to continue.

section 06

open banking.

Open Banking is optional. you can use Steward by typing your information manually if you'd rather. if you choose to connect a bank account:

we use an FCA-authorised Open Banking provider to fetch your transactions and balances on our behalf. they handle the secure connection to your bank under the Payment Services Regulations 2017 — we never see or store your bank login credentials. the access is read-only — Steward cannot move money, initiate payments, or change anything in your bank account.

you can revoke Open Banking access at any time from inside Steward, or directly in your bank app. revocation takes effect immediately for new requests; in-flight requests may complete (typically within an hour). under Open Banking regulations, you must re-authorise consent every 90 days even without revoking — your bank requires this; it's not us.

section 07

acceptable use.

you agree not to:

  • use Steward for anything illegal, fraudulent, or harmful to others;
  • impersonate someone else or use false information;
  • attempt to access another user's account or data, or interfere with the security of the service;
  • reverse-engineer, scrape, or copy the service except as permitted by UK law;
  • upload viruses, malware, or any code intended to disrupt the service;
  • resell or commercialise Steward (or anything you find inside it) without our written permission.
section 08

intellectual property + your data.

Our IP: the Steward name, logo, app design, copy, illustrations, code, and underlying technology are owned by us or our licensors. you may use them only as part of normally using the service. nothing in these terms transfers ownership of any of it to you.

Your data is yours: the financial and personal data you put into Steward is yours. you can export it at any time (we provide a JSON export from inside the app), and you can delete it at any time by deleting your account. our role is to be a careful custodian — see the privacy policy for the full detail.

Anonymous insights: we may use aggregated, anonymised insights derived from how the service is used (e.g., "X% of users save toward a house deposit") to improve Steward and to talk publicly about how the service is going. these insights cannot be used to identify you.

section 09

suspending or ending your account.

You can leave at any time — cancel your subscription and/or delete your account from inside the app. on deletion, your personal data is removed in line with the privacy policy.

We can suspend or close an account if you breach these terms, if we're legally required to, or if continuing to provide the service to you would put us or other users at risk. wherever possible we'll tell you why before doing so and give you a chance to put things right.

If we discontinue Steward entirely, we will give you reasonable notice (at least 30 days), refund any unused portion of a prepaid subscription, and offer a way for you to export your data before the service ends.

section 10

liability.

we work hard to make Steward useful and reliable, but no online service is perfect. the service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. we don't warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that it will meet every specific requirement you have.

What we don't accept liability for: losses or damages arising from your reliance on insights, plans, or suggestions in the service when making financial decisions; losses caused by inaccurate or incomplete data you've provided; or losses caused by issues at third parties (your bank, the OB provider, the payment processor) that are outside our reasonable control.

What we don't try to limit: nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any liability that cannot be excluded under English law (including your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015).

Cap on liability: to the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for any claim arising out of these terms or your use of Steward is limited to the greater of £100 or the total amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose.

section 11

complaints, disputes, governing law.

Complaints: if you have a complaint, please email hello@stewardapp.co.uk first. we aim to acknowledge within five working days and resolve within 30 days. we'll always try to put it right.

Privacy complaints: if your concern is about how we handle your personal data, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

Governing law: these terms and any non-contractual obligations arising out of them are governed by the laws of England and Wales. you and we agree that the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction to resolve any dispute, except that if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland you may also bring proceedings in your local courts.

section 12

changes & contact.

Changes: we may update these terms from time to time. for material changes (e.g., a price increase or a meaningful change to how the service works) we will tell you by email at least 30 days before the change takes effect. continuing to use the service after the change means you accept the updated terms; if you don't agree, you can cancel before the change kicks in.

Contact: for any question about these terms, email hello@stewardapp.co.uk. we aim to reply within five working days.

we've tried to write these in plain english because legalese helps no one. if any part is unclear, email us — we'd rather rewrite the section than leave you guessing.
